Terence Hannum - In The Sign CS/Newspaper (pre order available now)

We are back after a summer break and we have 2 releases coming out this fall. The first is from Terence Hannum most notably known for his work with Locrian and his recent zine work which has been shown in both the USA and Japan. We are proud to present to you his latest work titled "In The Sign". This Cassette comes with new compositions from Hannum as well as a full color and full sized newspaper made specifically for this piece. This release is limited to only 100 copies but is part of an on going audio/visual quarterly series Terence Hannum will be doing for Accidental Guest Recordings. Pre orders will ship the week of September 17. Release date for non pre orders is September 25th and will be extremely limited.  Below is a few words from Hannum explaining this challenging and haunting work:

"In the Sign" began from listening to Sodom's "In the Sign of Evil" and reading Paul Ricoeur's "The Symbolism of Evil".  It was a very obvious combination that made me want to begin with a very orthodox metal premise and allow it to mutate into something that no longer represented its origin.  To me this album represented a classic in its genre that spilled over into further abjection in other subgenres of metal.  It corrupted into the future beyond its initial sublimely feral inception.

For the past two years I have been making art based around the pentagram as an offshoot of my practice, this has resulted in sculptures, castings, laser etchings, drawings, collages and other media.  All trying to escape and leave behind the reference to its ubiquity in the genre of heavy metal and both bring up its past as a true symbol for cults (i.e. Pythagoreans) and towards a new future. The audio on the cassette is composed of analog synthesizer drones using five notes each, to make this fog of dissonance that rises and dissipates, all except for the last song are 5 minutes.  These should be listened to while viewing the newspaper. "

Kwaidan CS on sale now

AG-01: Kwaidan - Kwaidan (Cassette)

There's something unsettling about this live recording from Chicago trio Kwaidan, that few bands can put to tape. This recording pushes and pulls the listener, builds up tension and breaks it over and over again. The backbone of this work is not consistency of sound, rather, it is the attack of cymbals and drums that explode to the forefront, only to disappear, bringing to mind the beauty that would take place if Loren Connors played in Taj Mahal Travellers. While it's easy for a work like this to leave too much aural space to the listener, Kwaidan breathtakingly uses each second of these 36 minutes to fill every possible gap without overcrowding any sound. Some toil for years to create a work as consistent as this recording, but Kwaidan does it effortlessly. That in itself makes this cassette uncanny, ethereal, and a true experimental rarity.

Soon:

AG-02: Screen Vinyl Image - Strange Behavior (Cassette)
Strange Behavior is the second full length from guitar/synth duo Screen Vinyl Image. While releases such as the Rude 66 split 7” and the Siberian Eclipse 7” released earlier in 2011 hinted on a tighter, more aggressive sound, Strange Behavior is the full realization and the next chapter for SVI. Songs such as “We Don’t Belong” and “Revival” come at you face first and expose influences ranging from 80's cold wave to post-punk.
While the previous full length, Interceptors, depended more on mood and vibe, Strange Behavior relies on the push and pull of the songs. Songs like “Station 4” and “Rx” while very aggressive, sound as though they were made to be played at 2am in a smokey dark dance club, recalling the best of Eleven Pond and early-era New Order.

The easy road for many might be to underscore their shoegaze tendencies. Strange Behavior steps away from those roots and comes off more as the post-punk/synth masterpiece Jake and Kim Reid have been plugging at for 4 years now. It isn’t a stretch to call this LP Screen Vinyl Image’s finest moment. From the mechanical dense daze of “Stay Asleep” to the pop synth sweetness of “Night Trip”, Strange Behavior moves and yet challenges the listener in ways few records can.
